Dear Friends of Habitat for Humanity in Nassau County,
Habitat for Humanity in Nassau County, NY Inc., has been relying on individuals, corporations, foundations, and government assistance for financial support since 1992. Together, with our partners and volunteers, we continue to help deserving families and individuals on Long Island to live in affordable, safe and well cared for homes. Your generous support helps us change lives, one family at a time!
As Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity in Nassau County NY, daily I learn about many people who have been struggling and wish to realize their American dream of a safe and decent place to live. As the available land to build and affordable property to develop becomes increasingly limited here on Long Island, we refocused our construction program and began working with existing homeowners who are struggling in their current living environment. Many hardworking low to middle income families, seniors and veterans in Nassau County are homeowners, but often struggle to maintain their homes due to rising costs, damage caused by severe weather conditions, and increasing property taxes.
This year, a year like no other, has created hardship for so many around the world.
We could not have predicted that the greatest global pandemic would unfold, nor could we have predicted its impact on our community as a whole and Habitat, Nassau County. When the shutdown began, in March we had to find creative ways to serve our community which has been hit early and especially hard by the pandemic. Despite the challenges brought by Covid19 your support helped us to make critical repairs to a seniors’ bathroom and kitchen, repair broken windows and doors, correct electrical wiring issues, and to provide a new chimney for a veteran. We also worked on a major rehabilitation project in Hempstead, now near completion. This house will provide decent affordable shelter for a single mother of two, currently sharing a small apartment home with extended family, and who recently earned a Master of Science Degree in Social Work. A Hand Up, Not a Handout!
Through our new Neighborhood Revitalization Initiative, Habitat for Humanity In Nassau County offers Critical Home Repair, Aging In Place and A Brush With Kindness, an array of home repair services extended to homeowners so they may continue to live in safe, decent homes for years to come. These services include interior and exterior work performed to alleviate critical health, life and safety issues or code violations in the homes of our friends and neighbors in the community.
General support through fundraising and corporate sponsorships are a key source of revenue, enabling Habitat, Nassau to build new homes, and repair those ravaged by the effects of super storms, and severe weather conditions. All contributions go towards the cost of building supplies and materials, training, supervision of build projects, and support services to our Partner Families that ensures their successful transition to home ownership.
As we continue to receive numerous calls daily from our friends and neighbors in distress with inadequate housing conditions, your gift will go a long way to make a difference for those in need. Your support helps us continue to create decent affordable housing in Nassau County, as well as provide much needed critical repairs for veteran and elderly homeowners.
Your support means so much! We are grateful for many donations this year including Cars for Homes, Habitat for Humanity International’s car donation program which exceeded last year’s donations exponentially, and Enterprise Holdings Foundation for their generous grant; the Champions for Charity Event at Americana Mall, last holiday season, and past Corporate Team Build Sponsorships from New York Community Bank, JP Morgan, Travelers, AIG, Bank of America, T-Mobile, HDR Engineering, RAS Boriskin Law Offices, Consigli Construction, NPD Group, Inc., Northwell Health, and the continued support of The New York Community Bank Foundation, our local faith community partners, civic organizations, scout troops, schools, students, educator groups, private foundations, and individuals that have provided many generous gifts.
We rely on annual giving to provide resources to direct our highest priorities. Please make a donation today by mailing your check to Habitat for Humanity in Nassau County NY, 1400 Old Northern Blvd., Roslyn, NY 11576, or visit our donation page at www.habitatnassau.org/donate.
As you consider your year-end contributions, we hope that you will include HFHNC. Local families, veterans and struggling homeowners depend upon contributions like yours for which we are incredibly grateful.
On behalf of the Board of Directors and Volunteers of Habitat for Humanity In Nassau County NY, we thank you again for being a part of our community and enabling us to fulfill our mission to help people by alleviating critical health, life and safety issues in their homes, and for some making the dream of home ownership a reality!
